Label information Richard E. Miller was especially known for his paintings of female figures in sunlit interiors. La Toilette reveals a young woman seated at her dressing table, looking at her reflection in a mirror she is holding. A cup and saucer and a glass cruet on the table create a beautiful still life. Beyond the glass doors is a sunlit garden painted with short, broken brushwork. This style of painting recalls the influence of Impressionism and Claude Monet, a close friend. The bold palette of bright reds, greens and yellows and the elegant, sensuous figure makes this a classic Impressionist work of art.
